Lab-Tested Bond Strength for Asphalt Repairs
Asphalt Testing Solutions & Engineering completed independent AASHTO TP 114 testing to evaluate EZ Tack’s ability to improve bond strength between aged asphalt pavement and new hot mix asphalt. The study used a distressed RAP base to simulate old pavement, then EZ Tack was spray-applied before hot mix asphalt was compacted on top. Testing showed 191 psi bond strength unconditioned and 120 psi after freeze-thaw conditioning, remaining above the 100 psi benchmark often used to screen asphalt bond performance. Post-test observations showed that most specimens failed in the asphalt mixture rather than cleanly at the treated interface, suggesting strong bond integrity at the repair line.
